DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 18 (UPI) -- Part of Daytona Beach, Fla., was closed after dozens of cars and a television news truck became mired in unstable sand.
The cars sinking into Silver Beach Tuesday were an amusing show for some visitors, reported WKMG-TV, which had to have its television truck towed out of the sand when it went to report the story.
"They're getting stuck really easy and they are just sinking right in," said tourist David Combs.
"It is actually kind of stupid because they have seen tons of people come through and get stuck and yet they come through the same place," said Rebecca Buttercup, another tourist, who noted that some of those who got stuck added to their dilemma by spinning their tires, digging themselves in deeper.
Others were inspired to lend a hand, including tourist Sherri Beaudon.
"Whenever somebody has a problem, we pull them out because we are nice like that," Beaudon said.
Authorities said the sticky part of the beach would remain closed to cars until the sand proved firm.
