Backyard buzzards blunt home's curb appeal

HOPKINTON, R.I., July 12 (UPI) -- A Rhode Island home that gothic cartoonist Charles Addams would have loved is for sale at a bargain price -- and complete with a flock of vultures.

The home in Hopkinton is on the market at $190,000 -- even though the appraised value is more than $222,000. The relatively low selling price is due to the disturbing presence of various turkey vultures and black vultures, The Providence Journal reported.

"Full disclosure," shrugged realtor Pat Murray. "There is no sense in trying to hide the fact" that vultures roost there.

The huge birds roost year-round in the surrounding trees on Main Street. They have been known to chase cats, foul lawns and throw a scare into neighborhood children.

Murray said there wasn't much that could be done about the vultures, but he tells prospective buyers the house makes a great bed-and-breakfast for birdwatchers.
