GUILFORD, Conn., June 30 (UPI) -- An Idaho family has just completed a year-long 9,300-mile bicycle ride that took them across the country to Connecticut.

John and Nancy Vogel and their two sons -- Davy and Darryl -- took the scenic route, visiting California and Mexico. They pedaled the equivalent of three cross-country trips to reach John's mother's house on Long Island Sound in Guilford.

The Vogels are both teachers in Boise.

"John came home after a bad day in the classroom and said, 'I want to buy a triple bike and go,'" Nancy told the Hartford Courant. "And a couple weeks later, we did."

The trip started out as a personal venture with John, Davy and Darryl on the triple bike and Nancy on her own. But the Vogels, when they found out how much attention they were getting, started using it as a fundraiser, asking those they met to give money to AHOPE for Children, an Ethiopian orphanage.

John and Nancy are talking about bicycling to Argentina in a couple of years. John said his sons are excited about the possibility, but Davy said: "I'm not. I'm tired of bicycling every day."
