HOMER, Alaska, June 29 (UPI) -- Just three days after a man caught a 340.6-pound halibut to take the lead in Alaska's Homer Jackpot Halibut Derby, another monster fish has displaced him.
Daniel Prisaznuk had his name displayed at the derby headquarters in Homer, Alaska, for three days before Jerry Saunders hauled in a 358.4 pounder that dethroned him, the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News reported Friday.
Besides the possibility of winning $40,000-$45,000 when the derby ends at the end of the summer, Prisaznuk told the newspaper he was content with having his name posted atop the derby headquarters.
"It is simply amazing, unbelievable, but the Homer Halibut Derby again has a new barn-door halibut taking over the lead," the derby reported in a news release.
