Burger-eating title disputed

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 26 (UPI) -- The owner of a burger joint in Ann Arbor, Mich., had to decide who really holds the title as the Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burger eating champ.

On Sunday, Nick Gavrizi, a resident of Texas on a visit in his former home of Ann Arbor, decided it would be fun to see if he could beat the record set this month by hometown hero James Rocker. Gavrizi got 43 burgers down, three more than Rocker.

"The first two went down real fast, the third was rough and the last one was pretty bad," Gavrizi told the Ann Arbor News. "I had a lot of trouble yesterday digesting it all."

Questions rose about Gavrizi's claim to the title because his burgers reportedly differed in critical ways from those Rocker consumed, the newspaper report stated. So Rich Magner, the owner, put in some time weighing rolls and cheese slices to determine that Gavrizi's claim stood up to scrutiny.

Now, Magner is investigating ways to prevent his customers from launching freelance shots at the record, the News said.
