Japan man tops world's oldest list at 111

MIYAKONOJO, Japan, June 16 (UPI) -- A 111-year-old Japanese man admits he was somewhat surprised to find out he had been added to the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest man.

The venerable Tomoji Tanabe says he has been enjoying good health and appetite in recent years at his home in Miyakonojo, the Kyodo news service said Saturday.

By coincidence, Tomoji lives in the same Kyushu region of Japan as Yone Minagawa, who at 114 is listed as the world's oldest person.
