CHATTANOOGA, Tenn., June 15 (UPI) -- A 37-year-old man is being charged with aggravated arson and vandalism after allegedly using Bible pages to set a fire in a Chattanooga, Tenn., motel.

Richard McCoy has been accused of setting the fires, which burned themselves out, after a three-week investigation by arson investigators with the Chattanooga Fire Department, the Chattanooga Times-Free Press reported Friday.

Fire department spokesman Bruce Garner said McCoy is also accused of disconnecting the smoke detector in his room at the Best Western Heritage Inn "to delay the fire's detection," on May 27.

Although no one was injured during the incident, the aggravated arson charge comes from the endangerment to other people when the fire was set.

McCoy was found at the Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute but was judged competent during a hearing and taken to the Hamilton County, Tenn., Jail.
