NEW YORK, June 14 (UPI) -- A runaway lamb, a clumsy young hawk and a misguided falcon were in the care of rescuers in New York Thursday, a day after surviving the urban jungle.
The first rescue happened Wednesday morning when a baby hawk that had been nesting on a building in Manhattan fell from its nest onto the sidewalk, the New York Sun reported Thursday.
Fortunately for the bird, it was discovered by former New York City Department of Parks and Recreation commissioner, Gordon Davis, who called authorities.
An hour later, a clumsy falcon that struck the HSBC Bank building was rescued from the sidewalk by the owner of a fabric store who wrapped the bird in soft material and called Parks officials.
About the same time, an employee of a local moving company, Julio Rivera, spotted a young lamb scampering around a street in an industrial area of the Bronx near a slaughterhouse.
He told the Sun the lamb had tags attached to both ears.
"She was marked for death," he said.
Police turned the lamb over to the animal protection agency, Farm Sanctuary, where it will live out its life.
