JOLIET, Ill., June 14 (UPI) -- A sleeping armed man lying in wait for his victim at the man's house in Joliet, Ill., was awakened with a beating from which he fled wearing only underwear.

Will County sheriff's deputies said that in recent weeks there had been racial exchanges between the 21-year-old suspect and the resident of the house and on Sunday night the suspect took a shotgun to the house and fell asleep on top of it on the porch.

The resident returned and the two men began fighting and the unidentified resident managed to get the gun. The suspect's T-shirt was torn off in the scrap and when the resident's girlfriend jumped on the man his shorts fell down and he bolted, the Joliet Herald News said.

Police went to the suspect's home based on the couple's description and history and found Robert Cardona still in his underwear under a bloody blanket, the report said.

Cardona is charged with home invasion, unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and criminal trespassing. Bond was set at $6,000.
