KIRKWOOD, Mo., June 14 (UPI) -- A 76-year-old woman golfer in Kirkwood, Mo., took a time out in between swings to rescue a drowning dog.

Jean Kautzman said she was playing golf at the Westborough Country Club when she noticed something in the water, KSDK-TV, St. Louis, reported Thursday.

"I thought it was a duck. Here is this little bitty dog paddling upright in the water and it couldn't swim," Kautzman said.

"I said I've got to save that puppy so I took my shoes and socks off and started swimming and I got a hold of him."

After rescuing the dog, a Pomeranian named Lola, Kautzman finished off her 18 holes in wet clothes, the television station reported.
