NEW LONDON, Conn., June 13 (UPI) -- A "true blue" lobster caught at the mouth of the Thames River in New London, Conn., this week will live on as an educational tool and not become dinner.

Steve Hatch and his uncle Bob Green of Norwich found the bright blue crustacean in one of their lobster traps Sunday morning.

The odds of a lobster turning completely blue from head to tail, a genetic mutation, are about one in 3 million, The Day of New London, Conn., said.

Researchers at the University of Connecticut say the blue lobster would have turned red if it were cooked.

The 1 1/2-pound lobster is now a permanent resident of the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration, joining two other large blue lobsters already on exhibit.
