Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas

BRIDGETON, Mo., June 10 (UPI) -- A Missouri man allegedly managed to slip out of the back of a police cruiser and steal it, leading authorities on a high-speed chase on Interstate 70.
The Bridgeton man, who is believed to be in his 20s, reportedly managed to slip behind the wheel of the squad car while officers were distracted by family members trying to interfere with the man's arrest, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday.
Bridgeton Police Lt. James Woodland said the man managed to drive two counties over to St. Peters, Mo., before being caught by officers in a swampy area.
No one was injured during the chase.
