KALAMAZOO, Mich., June 7 (UPI) -- A semi-truck pushed a man in a wheelchair down two miles of road at speeds near 50 mph in Michigan after his wheelchair became lodged in the truck's grille.

When Michigan State Police got the first call from a woman at 4 p.m. Thursday, they thought it might be a prank. But more callers phoned reporting the same bizarre story.

The 21-year-old Kalamazoo man was hit as the he tried to cross the street in the wheelchair. The 52-year-old truck driver was waiting at a stoplight and said he didn't see the victim.

The wheelchair-bound man doesn't remember what the crosswalk signal showed as he crossed, The Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette reported.

Troopers caught up to the semi and the wheelchair was still lodged "by its handles" in the truck's grille. The truck driver didn't believe the officers' story until he got out of the cab and saw the wheelchair.

The man in the wheelchair says it was "quite a ride." Officials say charges are not anticipated.
