GOTHENBURG, Sweden, May 25 (UPI) -- Women inmates in a Swedish prison say they're being discriminated against because they can't get a good tan.

Bikinis are not issued to inmates at the prison in Sagsjon, so the Prisoners' Council wrote the Swedish Justice Ombudsman to complain, Aftonbladet reported.

"How are we supposed to be able to sunbathe at all? They answer we have got is that we can sunbathe in shorts and sports tops," the inmates' letter said. "In other words, we are treated differently because we are in an institution and we are discriminated against because of our gender."

The inmates said they "want to be able to enjoy the sun just like everybody else in Sweden, whether they are in an institution or on the outside," The Local reported.
