WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 25 (UPI) -- A former IBM employee is suing the company in White Plains, N.Y., claiming post-traumatic stress disorder led him to visit adult Internet chat rooms at work.

James Pacenza, 58, said in his lawsuit that he is addicted to the chat rooms because of the psychological disorder, which he claims he has suffered from since serving in the Vietnam War in 1969, the BBC reported Friday.

Pacenza argued in his suit that the company should have given him sympathy and treatment rather than dismissal.

He said his experiences in Vietnam, including witnessing the combat death of his best friend, left him addicted to sex and adult chat rooms allowed him to get his fix while at work, the BBC reported. His lawyers claim visiting the chat rooms was a form of self-medication.

The reason stated by IBM for Pacenza's dismissal was visiting prohibited chat rooms after previously being warned, the BBC said.
