No clothes, no problem in Vermont town

BURLINGTON, Vt., May 18 (UPI) -- The Vermont town of Brattleboro has a rare take on the issue of public nudity, making it legal until someone does something lewd and lascivious.

With their town taking such an unusual stance toward public nakedness, members of the Brattleboro Police Department said people from all around frequent the town in all their natural glory, the Brattleboro Reformer said Friday.

"We have a group of people who want to come enjoy the legal activity," police Capt. Steven Rowell said.

The problem in the town has been determining where police draw the line between simple public nudity and behavior deemed lewd and lascivious.

Rowell said if a naked individual decided to run through town, there would be no charges laid against them.

But he told the Reformer that if the same person decided to convince other pedestrians to look at them during their journey, then the act would be punishable under town law.
