NEW DELHI, May 14 (UPI) -- Actress Shilpa Shetty Monday reportedly asked India's Supreme Court to stay an obscenity charge arising from Hollywood star Richer Gere kissing her cheeks.
The kiss incident occurred last month when Gere kissed Shetty's cheeks during an AIDS awareness program in New Delhi, the Press Trust of India reported. A court in another town accused the two of violating India's strict public obscenity laws.
Some legal experts have said the charge has no legal merit and has made the country look ridiculous, Britain's Sky News reported.
Gere has apologized for any offense he may have caused in India.
