LONDON, May 11 (UPI) -- An Englishman injured in an al-Qaida bombing in Instanbul fell in love with his Turkish nurse and ended up marrying her.
Graeme Carter, 39, suffered severe burns, partial hearing loss and temporary blindness in a 2003 blast at the British Consulate that killed his fiance, The Mirror reports.
Because Carter couldn't speak the language, the hospital arranged for nurses fluent in English to take care of him.
"One particular nurse used to come in the evening," Carter says. "Because I wasn't able to sleep, I used to stay up all night chatting to her."
After returning home to England, Carter decided to return to Istanbul to visit the hospital and his favorite nurse.
He ended up marrying her and bringing her back to his home in Heckington.
"She just completed a masters degree at Lincoln University," says Carter. "It shows how clever she is."
