BEIJING, May 9 (UPI) -- Growing Chinese prosperity is becoming more evident with parents popping on average $71,795 for nuptials.

That price, of course, includes buying a home for the newlyweds in addition to paying for a car, photography, banquet, wedding dress and the honeymoon, reports the China Daily, quoting a recent national survey by the committee of the Chinese Wedding Expo.

The survey said a newly married couple typically spends $42,308 on a new home, $6,410 on decorating and $1,282 on appliances and furniture. It said photographs, wedding dress and honeymoon cots total about $17,949. The rest goes for other things.

In big cities, the cost is much higher, the survey found.

It said 82 percent of new couples spend their parents' money to pay for the wedding, home and cars.

"We parents want to share our children's daily expense to ease their financial situation, especially for weddings since it is a Chinese tradition," one parent said.
