Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe NAPERVILLE, Ill., May 7 (UPI) -- A couple convicted of attempting to rob a Naperville, Ill., bank at a drive-through window were sentenced to five years and four months in federal prison. Gene Horne and Kelly Mewhirter will each serve the same prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release, the Naperville Sun reported Monday. Advertisement The sentences were handed down Friday for the March 13 botched robbery as well as two other crimes, a $900 robbery that same day of MidAmerica Bank in Wheaton, Ill., and a March 15 holdup at a Naperville Chase Bank branch that netted $2,800. The drive-through robbery was foiled when the couple sent a note through the pneumatic tube system at Mutual Bank demanding that money be handed over or people would be shot in the parking lot. However, the teller chose instead to lock down the building and set off an alarm, causing the would-be robbers to drive off empty handed.
