NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- A caregiver was arrested in New York last week after a set of gold-plated teeth that belonged to a paralyzed man went missing, a report said.

Amos Fully was charged with petty larceny in the theft of the $900 teeth from Johnny Brown, his former client, but the caregiver has maintained his innocence, The New York Daily News reported Sunday.

"I didn't take no gold teeth," Fully said. "Why should I take them? They were made special for him."

Brown's mother, Viola, said that her son had fired Fully weeks before the alleged March 9 theft after discovering several of his other personal items missing.

"My son fired him (Fully) two weeks previous to what happened,' she said. "But (he) didn't want to take no for an answer. He kept coming back."

While Fully had prior arrests for theft on his record, Brown's family had never checked for a criminal past during his nearly three years of employment, the newspaper said.
