MALACCA, Malaysia, April 25 (UPI) -- One of the benefits of being endangered for a 1,000-pound crocodile in Malaysia is that he's been delivered to a harem of four females for breeding.

Jantan is a 15-foot, 25-year-old Gharial crocodile that lives at the Malacca Zoo. Since an 8-hour trip on Monday however, he's been eyeing the four females who live at the Perhilitan Wildlife Breeding Center in Sungai Dusun, the Malaysia Star report Wednesday.

Veterinarian Abraham Mathew said Jantan is in a habitat very much like his natural one as it's known environment is critical to breeding.

"There are some 2,000 crocodiles of this species left in Southeast Asia and studies are still being conducted as to why its breeding is so difficult," Mathew told the Star.
