OSLO, Norway, April 23 (UPI) -- Vandals dumped pink paint on the famed Sinnataggen statue in the Norwegian capital, apparently to protest the recent closure of a youth center.

Officials at Oslo's Frogner Park were forced to give the statue -- that of a young child -- a bath to remove the offending paint, Aftenposten reported Monday.

Saturday's attack on the park's Vigeland collection also prompted Oslo tourism official Tor Sannerud to call for additional security.

"This is Europe's largest sculpture park," Sannerud said. "There's so much value gathered here that it should have its own team of security guards."

A cryptic note left with the newly pink statue hinted at the purpose behind the crime, indicating the impromptu makeover was the result of the closure of a local youth center, the newspaper said.
