DAWSON, Texas, April 13 (UPI) -- Rescuing a horse that got stuck in the mud in Texas took more than six hours, but saving one of the rescuers went a lot faster.

During the effort, one of the rescuers, a woman, got stuck herself, WFAA-TV, Dallas-Fort Worth, reported. Pulling her out was a shorter and easier job than getting the horse out.

Robin Harpster found his horse, named Champ, in a muddy creek at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Harpster, his family and volunteers from the area about 50 miles south of Dallas used a backhoe and improvised straps.

At about 1:30 p.m., they finally lifted Champ from the muck. Once he was out of the mud, Champ was able to walk around on his own.
