Grand piano takes a tumble

LONDON, April 10 (UPI) -- Music lovers in Devon watched in horror as the 9-foot grand piano they'd spent two years raising money for tumbled off a truck.

The $88,000 Bosendorfer was headed to the Two Moors Festival when piano movers dropped it as they moved it off the truck, the Daily Mail reported.

The piano was insured, but probably only for the $50,000 festival organizers paid for it at auction and not for the $88,000 replacement value, the newspaper said.

"The piano is longer than most grands and its tail caught on the lorry as they were trying to manhandle it off," said John Adie, who runs the festival.

"It landed on the drive and the forward momentum meant it carried on going and it tipped over and landed on its lid on our steps."

His wife, festival organizer Penny Adie, had chosen the piano in London.

"A Bosendorfer is to a pianist what a Stradivarius is to a string player and we are all numb with shock at what has happened," she said.
