HOUSTON, April 7 (UPI) -- An artistic car created by students that was recognized at last year's Houston Art Car Parade will likely remain stranded overseas for the foreseeable future.

After winning the annual parade's Mayor's Cup and Viewers' Choice awards in 2006, the art car from the Waltrip High School students was shipped to Germany for a display and now the Texas teens do not have the funds to ship it home, the Houston Chronicle said.

Modeled after funk music legend George Clinton, the Atomic Dog was originally set to become an exhibit at Sweden's Volvo Museum.

Yet after the museum turned it down, the car has remained in limbo waiting the necessary funds to ship it back to Texas.

While a fundraiser is being organized by a Houston bar owner to pay for shipping costs, the students' art teacher longs for the vehicle to be freed from its crate.

"I just don't want it to be stuck in a box," Rebecca Bass told the Chronicle. "It's a little depressing ... It would be different if it was in Chicago, because then I could actually go see it."
