CHELMSFORD, England, March 28 (UPI) -- A 24-year-old peeping Tom who pleaded guilty to voyeurism in a British court has been ordered to wear a fluorescent jacket when he goes out at night.

The man had admitted to peeking into a woman's window on the night of Jan. 11 and while he awaits final sentence for the crime, Judge Peter Dedman of the Southend Crown Court wanted to make sure others saw him coming in the future, The Daily Mail reported.

"I think it is appropriate such an order should be made for the protection of the public in particular women alone, either at home or work or in the street," Dedman said, "and also for his own protection to stop him offending."

The unusual legal order has since drawn the criticism of some sex offense experts like barrister Lesley Bates.

"It is very difficult to see how making him wear a fluorescent jacket will prevent further voyeurism," she told The Daily Mail,

"It is tantamount to asking him to walk around wearing a sign saying, 'I'm a sex offender,'" she added.
