LONDON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A comedian in Britain reportedly fooled Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett when he phoned her pretending to be Chancellor Gordon Brown.

The BBC reported that Rory Bremner, who is known to have called several other politicians under the disguise of being Brown, called Beckett in 2005 when she was environment secretary.

Beckett told sources she has no recollection of the conversation.

"When she first took the call she said, 'Well, Gordon, and I wouldn't say this to anybody else...," Bremner told BBC Sunday. "And we suddenly realized what we were getting into, real stuff here."

Beckett also reportedly gave the impression that Brown and Tony Blair were "putting together the Cabinet as a duo" after the election, Bremner recounted.

Bremner told the BBC that he never broadcast the tape mainly because he wanted to "use Brown again in order to find out a little bit more about the Blair-Brown camps."
