LONDON, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- England is redesigning its ad campaign aimed at gay travelers after discovering the tourists it was targeting found it to be too tacky.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that ads featuring half-naked hunks, gay bars and drag queens are being phased out. That's not apparently what gay tourists were looking for in England.

A VisitBritain research report on gay American focus groups said, "They consider Britain a sophisticated, worldly destination -- and they want to see it portrayed as such. They do not want to see it presented in a cheesy way," the newspaper reported.

The Sunday Telegram said the changes have apparently not yet made it to VisitBritain Web site, which reads, "we've even had a gay king (or perhaps we should have called him Queen)."
