ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- A Florida theater has mollified a passing motorist by substituting the word "hoohaa" for the clinical term for a female sexual organ on its marquee.
"We got a complaint about this play 'The Vagina Monologues,'" Bryce Pfanenstiel of the Atlantic Theater in Atlantic Beach told WJXT-TV. "We decided we would just use child slang for it. That's how we decided on 'Hoohaa Monologues.'"
Pfanenstiel said the call was from a woman who was "offended" that she had to explain the play's real title to her niece.
The play -- written by Eve Ensler -- is being presented by a group of law students who are donating the proceeds to charity. Pfanenstiel said the hoo-ha over the name will probably increase the gate.
In New York, appearing in "The Vagina Monologues" became trendy in certain circles. One well-known woman who put in some time on stage was Donna Hanover, a former TV newswoman whose marriage to then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani was on the rocks at the time.
