Calif. carnivore wins Philly wing contest

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A San Jose, Calif., man ate his way to victory at a Philadelphia chicken wing-eating contest, wolfing down down 182 and setting an all-time Wing Bowl record.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Saturday that Californian Joey Chestnut nailed down a second straight victory in the eating contest sponsored by Philly radio station WIP. Last year, he threw down 173 wings, which also set a record.

The theme of this year's amateur eating contest was "Philadelphia vs. The World." Some 20 local amateur eaters competed against five professional eaters who were chosen and entered by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

Proceeds from the bawdy Wing Bowl ticket sales went to charity.
