CHICAGO, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A week before his former team is to compete in football's top game, ex-Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka saw his brand of wine perform well in its own competition.
The Chicago Sun-Times said that through a taste-test it set up with four of its top columnists, Mike Ditka's Kick Ass Red wine broke even when paired up against a brand that costs twice as much.
While columnists Mark Brown, Elliott Harris, David Roeder and Paige Wiser are not official wine tasters, the assigned panel was split when asked to determine which wine was the more expensive.
In the end, Wiser and Brown chose Ditka's $45 red wine, while their fellow columnists correctly sided with the unnamed $100 bottle of red.
"As a sportswriter, I don't know what a $100 bottle of wine tastes like," Brown said regarding the taste-test.
With the Bears set to take on the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl, a recognizable increase has been reported in sales of Ditka's wine, the newspaper said.
