SYDNEY, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Australia's worst drought in more than 100 years is causing thousands of deadly snakes to move into residential neighborhoods.

Australian wildlife officials warn urban residents to beware of the tens of thousands of snakes slithering into the cities, the BBC reported.

A 16-year-old in Sydney was bitten by one of the world's deadliest snakes, an Eastern Brown, and died of a heart attack shortly after, officials said.

The snakes are being found in shopping centers, gardens and homes as they search for water.

More than 60 serious snakebite cases have been reported since September with at least three deaths in recent weeks, the BBC said.
