PITTSBURGH, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Koda the polar bear is reportedly "doing very well" after undergoing root canal surgery at the Pittsburgh Zoo.
The surgery was performed when the zoo keepers found a broken tooth and an infection in Koda's mouth after noticing that he had been acting strange and did not have his usual appetite, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
An anesthetic blow dart was used so that the surgery could be performed on the 2-year-old, 550-pound polar bear.
"The bear was very comfortable, and so were we," said Tom Klein, veterinary dentist.
Koda is being kept behind the scenes until he is re-united with his brother Nuka on public display later this week.
