NUREMBERG, Germany, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A German city plans to build a new playground without swings and slides -- because it is for the elderly rather than children.

Nuremberg's proposed elder playground will have giant chess boards, areas for card-playing, a running track and a badminton court -- activities to keep fit and stimulate the mind, the BBC reports.

Deputy Mayor Horst Foerther says he got the idea after traveling to Hong Kong and seeing elderly people practicing tai chi in parks.

If the playground is a success, the idea could be adopted across the country, the BBC says.
