Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands since 2000. Advertisement The clubs facing closure -- about 20 percent of those doing business in Amsterdam's famed "red light" district -- have lost their licenses or been denied permits for alleged illegal activities such as money laundering, the BBC reports.
