Sex clubs closing but it's not about sex

Dec. 1, 2006 at 12:07 PM

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Amsterdam authorities are closing 33 of the city's sex clubs by the end of the year but it has to do with something other than sex.

Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands since 2000.

The clubs facing closure -- about 20 percent of those doing business in Amsterdam's famed "red light" district -- have lost their licenses or been denied permits for alleged illegal activities such as money laundering, the BBC reports.
