JERUSALEM, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- The mayor of Paris has pledged Jerusalem will have its own Eiffel Tower as part of anniversary observations of the city's unification in 1967's Six-Day War.
Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe is visiting Jerusalem, and promised the gift would be in place in time for the 40th anniversary next year, although it won't be full-size, Israel's Arutz Sheva network reported.
The 82-foot high replica will be 1-12th the size of the tower in Paris, and will be located at a busy downtown square in the city's Paris Square, or Place du France, the report said.
Delanoe announced his gift during a meeting with Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski.
While significant, it pales in comparison to the gift the French government made to the United States in 1889, when construction of the Statue of Liberty was completed to honor the U.S. centennial, the report said.
