CHICAGO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- An alleged rapist was arrested after Chicago police tracked him down through the CVS pharmacy card attached to his keys, which were dropped at the scene.
A Cook County judge ordered Jeffrey Cole held on $300,000 bond for aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated robbery, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday.
Police said they had returned to the scene the day after the attack to interview a witness. The witness gave them a set of keys he found at the scene that included the CVS card that investigators then used to find Cole's name by subpoenaing records.
Prosecutors have accused Cole of following the victim off a train. They charge he then pushed the victim to the ground, demanded she give him her money and sexually assaulted her. A witness staying at a friend's house nearby heard the victim's screams and chased Cole down when he attempted to run, they said. However, prosecutors said Cole escaped before police arrived.
The victim identified Cole from a lineup.
