CHICAGO, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Two Chicago-area senior conservation officials have been fined for mistakenly shooting the wrong kind of duck while hunting.
Steve Bylina, the superintendent of Cook County's Forest Preserve and his maintenance superintendent, Richard Bono, ran afoul of the law near the Wisconsin border on Sept. 9, the opening day for teal duck hunting.
An officer of the Illinois Conservation Police saw them shoot down a bird from a formation flying southward, and retrieved the dead duck, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Instead of a teal, they had brought down a wood duck, whose season had yet to open.
Both men were ticketed, and in court earlier this month each agreed to pay a $150 fine.
