MANCHESTER, Conn., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- In Manchester, Conn., Saturday, two-dozen people gathered for an entrance exam into Mensa, an organization for those deemed very intelligent.

The Hartford Courant reported that to be a Mensa member, one has to rank in the top 2 percent in intelligence on a worldwide scale. This would be equivalent to scoring about 130 on an IQ test.

Mensa, which has about 52,000 members nationwide, offers social events like Scrabble night and rock climbing as well as networking opportunities. The group was founded in 1946 in England by two barristers, Roland Berrill and Lancelot Lionel Ware.

The Courant reported that there are different reasons perspective members take the exam. Some, of course, take it for the membership, while others said they just wanted to prove to themselves they could do it.
