NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A fish sculpture made from Tupperware has received top honors in an international art competition sponsored by the Florida-based Tupperware Brands Corp.

In the first-ever contest to turn the popular plastic storage containers into works of art, Kriss Ulve of France won the free form category with a turquoise and cobalt blue fish on a stand, the company said.

Other winners transformed the containers into beaded handbags, a Formula One race car model and a kaleidoscope.

The contest drew hundreds of entries that were judged by a panel of home design and materials experts.

Winners received $5,000 and trips to New York where winning items are on display at the Time Warner Center.

Turning 60 this year, Tupperware was once called "fine art for 39 cents" by the magazine House Beautiful. With global sales of $1.2 billion last year, the Orlando-headquartered company hopes the contest will stop people from viewing its products as relics of a bygone era.
