LONDON, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Maybe the pelican was tired of a steady diet of fish when he gobbled up a pigeon in London's St. James Park.

One witness said the pigeon was "kicking and flapping the whole way" down the pelican's throat, Sky News reported. The pelican waddled over to the pigeon and scooped it up, Sky News said. After about 20 minutes, the pelican downed the pigeon head-first.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds said a pelican eating a bird is usual, Sky News said. The mainstay of a pelican's diet is fish.
