Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Las Vegas casino resort developer Steve Wynn inadvertently put a hole in a Picasso painting he agreed a day earlier to sell for $139 million.
In an accident witnessed by television's Barbara Walters and screenwriters Nora Ephron and Nicholas Pileggi, Wynn made a gesture and struck Picasso's "Le Reve," French for "The Dream," with his right elbow.
The gesture left a hole in the left forearm of Marie-Theresa Walter, Picasso's 21-year-old mistress, the size of a silver dollar, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported.
"Oh, (expletive), look what I've done," Ephron quoted Wynn as saying in a blog.
Wynn has retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that affects peripheral vision.
Wynn paid $48.4 million for the Picasso in 1997 and had agreed to sell it to art collector Steven Cohen.
Wynn now plans to restore "Le Reve" and keep it.
