Gen X more likely to return to nest

TORONTO, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A Canadian study says members of Generation X are three times more likely to return to the nest than their baby boomer parents.

The study by Statistics Canada attributed the growing trend of young people moving back home to a number of factors, including heavy student loan debts, the reduced stigma of young adults living with their parents and the desire for a standard of living that young people can't afford on their own, the CBC reported.

The study said the "increasing acceptance of common-law relationships, which are more likely to break up than marriages," was also a factor.

The study found that leaving home at younger age made it more likely that they would return one day.

"Men who left when they were between 15 and 17 years old were 74 percent more likely to return than those who waited until they were at least 21," the CBC said.
