Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe NAPLES, Italy, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Thursday is World Pizza Day, which -- coincidentally -- kicks off Naples, Italy's famous Pizzafest. Pizzafest, now in its 11th year, had turned out hundreds of pizzas made by pizzaioli from around the world, ANSA reported. The only qualification for pizza makers is that they comply with guidelines by the city's Real Neapolitan Pizza Association, ANSA said. Advertisement The event draws thousands of Neapolitans and tourists to sample pizza in its birthplace, ANSA said. This year, the festival's attractions include an exhibit on the history of pizza as well as the annual "best Neapolitan pizza-maker" contest. After its success in Naples, Pizzafest branched out to Brussels in 2003. Similar events are planned in Paris and other European capitals.
