COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- New college dormitories in Denmark with designer features are open to some students who are willing to do community work.

The new residences feature designer furniture, ceramic stovetops and individual bathrooms, as well as free parking and a fitness center, the Copenhagen Post reported.

"It's spectacular, and a lot more exciting than the dorms of the '70s," said Jens Kramer Mikkelsen, managing director of the Ørestad Development Corp. and former lord mayor of Copenhagen.

Managers of the projects told the Post that in choosing occupants they consider students' choices of subject, age and gender -- along with applicants' interest in committee work on behalf of the dorms.
