NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- An unprecedented search effort is on in Queens for Vivi, the prize-winning dog who escaped two months ago from her carrier at New York's Kennedy Airport.

A volunteer search team has been appointed to find the dog, which was returning home after winning an award at the Westminster Dog Show. Many of the volunteers believe the dog is not only alive, but possibly pregnant, the New York Post reported.

Some remain convinced they will find the dog, but others insist Vivi is long gone.

Vivi's California owners, Rick Patterson and his fiancee, Jill Walton, have joined the search and rescue team. The couple have reportedly spent $25,000 on tracking dogs, bumper stickers, feeding stations, flyers and motion-sensor cameras placed throughout Queens.

Patterson told the Post he flew in from California last week for the latest Vivi search.

There's even a Vivi hot line -- (877) JFK-VIVI -- the Post reported.
