GOSPORT, England, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Police in southern England are looking for a vigilante who has slashed the tires of at least 20 people who were driving while talking on cell phones.

The overnight attacks have been taking place around Gosport, near Southampton for several weeks, and the culprit leaves a reprimand made from words cut out of newspapers on the windshields, The Telegraph reported.

"Warning. You have been seen driving while using your mobile phone," each note said.

Inspector Kevin Cuffe told The Telegraph it's believed the vandal was involved in an accident associated with a driver talking on a cell phone. He said it also appears the slasher seems to be using license plate information to track down the offending drivers' home addresses.

In Britain, it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving under any circumstances, the newspaper said.
