New Straits News and Sky News reported on the botched robbery, in which the thieves attempted to flee empty-handed after the machine fell, setting off the alarm. They did not realize until after the break-in that the ATM was used to deposit checks only, and did not have cash. A security guard who had been asleep was awoken by the alarm sounding. Several similar attempts to steal ATMs have been reported recently.
